Butterfly Pea Lemonade is a pretty color changing lemonade with butterfly pea flowers that naturally turns blue when steeped in water. When the tea comes in contact with something acidic like lemon juice, it changes the color from blue to purple. The more lemon juice is added, the more purple the tea will become.
Ingredients
1/2 cup Butterfly pea flowers, dried
5 cups Water
1 cup Sugar or to taste
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
Instructions
Make Butterfly Pea Flower Tea
In a pan, add 3 cups Water along with Butterfly pea flowers.
Simmer for 10 minutes.
Remove from heat, cover and keep it aside for 10 minutes.
Strain and set it aside to cool.
Make Lemon Mixture
In a cup, add lemon juice, sugar and 2cups water, mix well.
Assemble Drink
Take a tall glass filled with ice, pour the Butterfly pea flower tea about a half way.
Pour in the lemon mixture until it reaches the top and watch the magic happen.
When the lemon meets the syrup, the color will change from blue to purple.
Stir to combine the two mixtures well and enjoy.
