Oven roasted Chicken Shawarma

Shawarma is a flavorful middle eastern street food. It is basically spiced juicy chicken wrapped in a Pita bread , topped with yogurt sauce and cucumber salad.This simple shawarma recipe will give you the best flavorful shawarma at home with only a few handful of ingredients. It is a perfect recipe for a quick and easy weeknight dinner.

Yield: 6 shawarma pitas

Ingredients:

To marinate Chicken

2 tsp Cumin powder

2 tsp Coriander powder

1/2 tsp Paprika

1/4 tsp Cloves powder

1 tsp Red Cayenne pepper

1 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp Salt

1/4 tsp Ground black pepper

2 tbsp Olive oil

1 tbsp Lemon juice

1 lb Boneless chicken

Yogurt Sauce

1/2 cup Greek yogurt

2 tbsp tahini

2 tbsp lemon juice

1/2 tsp Cumin powder

2tbsp Mint leaves, chopped

2 cloves Garlic, minced

Salt to taste

Cucumber Salad

1/4 cup Onions, sliced

1/2 cup Cucumber, chopped

1 cup Cherry tomatoes, halved

2 tbsp Lemon juice

1 tbsp Olive oil

1 tbsp Coriander leaves, chopped

Salt to taste

Ground Black pepper to taste

6 pieces of Pita bread

Method:

  • Preheat the oven to 425 F.

  • Take a mixing bowl, add the chicken along with all the spices and toss to coat.

  • Spread the marinated chicken in one layer on a lightly oiled baking sheet pan.

  • Bake the chicken for 25-30 minutes.

  • While the chicken is roasting, make the sauce by combining all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.

  • In a separate bowl, toss all the salad ingredients and mix well.

  • When the chicken is cooked, remove from the oven and slice into bite size pieces.

  • Heat the Pita bread on a pan. Spread the yogurt sauce, add chicken shawarma and cucumber salad. Serve immediately.
