When I think about Sundays during my childhood, one thing that strikes first to my mind is Mutton Curry & Bagara rice made by my Mom.
This recipe is my Mom's and it is a hot, spicy and delicious Mutton cooked with spices.
Ingredients
2 tbsp Oil
1 large Onion, finely chopped
1/4 tsp Turmeric
2 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
2 tbsp Red Chili Powder
1 tbsp Coriander powder
1 tsp Garam Masala powder
1 cup Curd
Salt as needed
2 lbs. Mutton
4tbsp Coconut powder
2tbsp Poppy Seeds
2 cups Water
Coriander Leaves, finely chopped
1 Lemon
Method
In a blender, add poppy seeds and coconut powder. Blend it into a fine paste and keep it aside.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add chopped onions and fry until golden brown.
Add turmeric and Ginger garlic paste. Fry for 3-4 minutes until the raw smell goes away.
Now add washed and cleaned mutton, mix well.
Add Red Chili powder, Coriander powder and salt. Mix well and let it cook on medium flame for 5-10 minutes.
Add coconut paste, curd, garam masala and water based on the required consistency. Mix well and let it cook for 3-5 minutes or until it comes to a boil.
Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the meat is tender.
Once the pressure is released, squeeze in the lemon juice and mix well.
Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve with plain rice or Bagara rice.
