Telangana Style Mutton Curry

When I think about Sundays during my childhood, one thing that strikes first to my mind is Mutton Curry & Bagara rice made by my Mom.

This recipe is my Mom's and it is a hot, spicy and delicious Mutton cooked with spices.

  • Salt as needed

  • 2 lbs. Mutton

  • 4tbsp Coconut powder

  • 2tbsp Poppy Seeds

  • 2 cups Water

  • Coriander Leaves, finely chopped

  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add chopped onions and fry until golden brown.

  • Add turmeric and Ginger garlic paste. Fry for 3-4 minutes until the raw smell goes away.

  • Now add washed and cleaned mutton, mix well.

  • Add Red Chili powder, Coriander powder and salt. Mix well and let it cook on medium flame for 5-10 minutes.

  • Add coconut paste, curd, garam masala and water based on the required consistency. Mix well and let it cook for 3-5 minutes or until it comes to a boil.

  • Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the meat is tender.

  • Once the pressure is released, squeeze in the lemon juice and mix well.

  • Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and serve with plain rice or Bagara rice.
